Day 5 - Monday - More Sights
Monday was another later than expected start to the day. Despite the late start, we saw a lot! Again, we didn't get to San Francisco until about 11. Our first stop would be lunch at Mama's on Washington Square. It's a very well-known breakfast place (they also serve lunch). Unfortunately it was closed! Now we have an excuse to go back to SF (besides friends and family of course). So, we walked around the neighborhood and found another place. We were right in the Chinatown/Little Italy area. It was nice to walk and take in the atmosphere.
After lunch, our goal was to drive to Muir Woods. It's one of my favorite places in the whole world. It's a conservation park of redwood trees! They are amazing and I couldn't wait to take Trevor there. On the way to Muir Woods, the GPS took us toward Lombard Street, the crookedest road in the world. So we had to stop and take some pictures. The gardens are lovely on that street! Then, to get to Muir Woods, we drove across the Golden Gate Bridge. We stopped for pictures. I haven't mentioned that the weather in the Bay Area was GORGEOUS the whole time we were there. We were so lucky. That Monday was 80 degrees!! The pictures of us on the Golden Gate Bridge came out beautifully. I'll post them soon.
Finally we arrived at Muir Woods. It was about 3 when we got there and we stayed until sun down, at which time it was getting chilly. Plus, the redwoods don't really allow much sun to get through to the ground, so we were all getting cold. The redwood forest did not disappoint. It had this calming nature-y smell, and the air was so still, and the size of the trees were astounding. Previous times that I've been there, we've taken nice trails. But this time, since we had the strollers, we had to stay on the main trail which was partially paved and did not go up or down hill. It was still very nice, but we missed some of my favorite tress. I can't wait until the kids get bigger and we can go again.
After Muir Woods, we headed back to the city to pick up my parents who had spend the day with my Great Uncle. They all went to dinner at May Flower while Trevor and I split from them to have dinner in Chinatown with his family (i.e., his parents, brother, aunts, Great aunt). We were hoping to do some sight-seeing with his side of the family, but they had done sight-seeing the days before the wedding (while we were busy with rehearsal and picking up the tux). The days following the wedding, they played golf, and although Trevor could have joined them in order to spend time with them, he opted out. Carrying a heavy golf bag was not in the cards for us as we had two strollers, two car seats, and two suitcases. Plus, as Trevor says, golf would take up many precious hours during our short trip.
Our colds didn't slow us down as much on Monday as it did on Sunday. Dinner was still a struggle, but not as bad as the other nights.
