Kira Loves Reading Time

Here's some pictures from Kira's first month... She has changed quite a lot since then. She loves it when she sits in her rocker and Vickie reads to her. She starts making all kinds of sounds from her mouth as if she's trying to repeat back what's being read to her. And she loves to suck on her hands!

Rookie Mom

I wonder when will I become a proficient mom. The most annoying thing happened today. My usual activity on Thursdays is to visit Trevor's parents' house. This gives them a chance to see Kira more often, and they can play with her while I relax and do other things. Hanging out with the in-laws is especially nice towards the end of the week when I have Kira-overload! Today I had special plans to get my hair cut. I've been meaning to get it cut for weeks, and I wanted to take advantage of the available babysitters! So, I packed up some breast milk from my freezer and headed out. (Every now and then when I feel like I have extra breast milk, I'll pump it and stick it in the freezer for times when Kira and I might be temporarily separated.) Kira last fed at 8:30 am which means her next feeding would occur at approximately 11:30. Considering this, I made my hair cut appointment for 1:00. Well, at 12:15 Kira was still fast asleep. I decided to set up for Kira's even...

Kira's 2-Month Appointment

First of all, here are the new measurements: Height: 23 inches (76th percentile) Weight: 11 lbs 9 oz (72nd percentile) Head Circumference: x cm (35th percentile) - I forget this measurement, I will update later Apparently, head is still on the small side. In addition to getting measured up, Kira also received three shots. I knew she was going to get shots at her 2-month appointment. All babies get their shots at 2 months. My boss has a 6-month old baby girl, and she told me that when her baby got her shots, she did not respond to the first shot, but by the second injection, she was crying. My co-worker had a similar story about her baby (a 4-month old boy). She said that he did not respond right away but that a few seconds after the first shot, he was crying. For days I wondered how Kira would react. Kira was much more decisive compared with the two other babies. The second the needle hit her skin, she was screaming bloody murder. Full blown, level-10 crying! She had no probl...

What's New?

I haven't posted in a long while because all of the Kira stories I have lately involve pee, poo, or puke. I didn't think it would be very nice to tell those stories. On Sunday, we had visitors for brunch. Trevor made crepes! They were so good. My friend, (who is also a mom), asked me what new thing Kira is doing lately. I didn't know what to say right away. I had to think about it for a few seconds. I'm glad she asked me this question. If I never stopped to think about it, I wouldn't realize that Kira does something new every few days! Just this weekend, Kira leared to suck her fingers. It's so funny when she does it!

Splish Splash!

Have I mentioned that Kira loves bath time? She does! When she's in her bath, she's so relaxed. It's like she's at a spa! Last week, we were at Trevor's mom's house for the day, just hanging out. After dinner, Trevor's mom was holding Kira. She was fussing a bit, so mom was bouncing Kira and patting her back. All of a sudden Kira lets out a BIG FART! I certainly knew what that meant...but mom sat there innocently not knowing what was going to happen. I said, "Mom, I think Kira just made a big poo, and it might leak." Mom said, "oh don't worry, I don't mind." I think she must have thought that the chances of leaking were low...but it wasn't, because Kira leaked on her! In the end we had to bath Kira. But we didn't have a baby bath tub at Trevor's mom's house. So we put her in the sink. I thought will all the chaos Kira would get aggitated. But, no. She just sat in the sink very contently! It's funny to see ex...

Pleasant Awakening

Last night I fed Kira at 12:30 am and I expected to wake up at around 3 or 3:30 for her next feeding. To my surprise, I woke up with a start at 4:30 am. Where was the crying??? I looked over in the bassinet next to me and there was Kira wide awake. She was entertaining herself! She was making funny shapes with her mouth, waving her arms around ( they busted out of her swaddle ), and trying her best to kick her legs (they were still swaddled up). What a nice way for a mommy to wake up! I'll take that over a baby screaming her head off any day!
