Kira is sick =(
It was bound to happen. It's a shame that it had to happen so soon. It all started on Monday, the weekend after the Boston Open. Kira was such a cutie, it couldn't be helped that she was passed around. And she was such a good little girl. She smiled at everyone and didn't cry one bit! Well, someone must have given her a bug, because she's fighting something.
On Monday, Kira had a dry cough. She only coughed occasionally, so I didn't really think much of it. Then her cough picked up on Tuesday. That's when I knew something was up. I emailed her doctor, and he said to watch for a fever, labored breathing, and difficulty nursing. Kira had none of those, so we just sat tight.
By Thursday, she definitely had a cough, and it was a bit raspy. However, still no fever. I wasn't really alarmed, but I wanted to take her to the doctor anyway. If she did have a slight infection, I would rather catch it early rather than have it develop to the point where she spiked a fever. The doctor said she was fine. No infection. I'm still glad that we saw her because she gave me some great advice about how to deal with Kira's symptoms. The doctor said that Kira's cough was likely due to the nasal drip. So, I should use a bulb to remove as much of the nasal secretions as possible. She also recommended that I apply saline drops to her nose to loosen up the mucus. A steamy shower would also help Kira, and the doctor suggested I take her into the shower with me. We did that last night and it really helped! Finally, the doctor recommended that we put some towels under Kira's crib mattress so that the mattress sit at an incline. This should help reduce nasal drip while she's sleeping.
Today her cough is worse, and the doctor said Kira might get worse before she gets better, so I'm still not really alarmed. Kira is sneazing A LOT MORE, and has A LOT more nasal drip. Poor baby. She hates it when I wipe her nose, and she hates the nasal bulb even more! I hope she gets better sooner rather than later.
