Renee Update

Today I'm at home with Renee on my own. Kira is with Trevor's mom. It's been sort of a rough day for us because Renee is not sleeping well. The reason for this could be a variety of things from itchy gums, gassy belly, to irritated skin. Last Tuesday, Renee developed a rash. Usually that's nothing to write about, but this rash was peculiar in that it formed circles on her face. By the time Friday rolled around, I was concerned enough to take her to the doctor. He said that the rash was most likely 1 of 2 things: eczema, or tinea. If it were eczema, then it would reduce in redness with OTC hydrocortisone, but would not completely disappear for another couple weeks. If it were tinea, then it would actually get worse with the hydrocortisone. So, his recommendation was to apply the hydrocortisone over the weekend and reassess on Sunday. Well, the circles actually got bigger, so it was probably tinea. But if it weren't tinea, then he said it could be a whole slew of other things! So, he recommended an OTC antifungal and I've been using it on Renee since Monday. She had the rash on both sides of her cheeks. By now, one side of her face has cleared up but the other has not. I suspect it is because of the way she sucks her fingers, the side with the rash that is persisting gets less medication (because it eventually gets rubbed off). I'm going to start applying the antifungal after she falls asleep and hope that the rash goes away. If it doesn't, I'll probably take her back to the doctor. We'll see what happens on Monday.

Boy this week is going by fast! In fact, everything is going by really fast with Renee. She's starting to roll over. She grabs at her toys. And, she is easily distracted by noises when I'm nursing her. I remember when Kira went through all of this and it seemed like forever for Kira to get to that point! I remember seeing all the subtle signs that Kira was wanting to roll over, and grab and respond to noises before she actually did them. With Renee, all of a sudden she's doing it!

The most remarkable thing about Renee, for me, is her cooing and smiling/chuckling. I've been trying so hard to catch it on video and post it. But it's really tricky getting a good shot of her doing these things. The camera is never near by, and with Kira bouncing around, I can't never get Renee to do it again once the camera is in my hand. I get excited and run off to get the camera, and Kira's all up in the situation. Good old Kira. I was hoping not to mention Kira too much in this post because everything is about her!...but here she is being mentioned.
